Meet Sensei Pete

“I’m Pete, the instructor, or Sensei, for Wavendon Gate Karate Club.

I started training when I was very young. My  Dad was a Judo instructor, so me and my brothers all went and trained together – we loved it! I eventually got my Judo black-belt in 2006, and broke my ankle on the same day. I returned to training, but realised that something was missing. Judo is more throwing, groundwork, arm-locks and strangles – I was missing punches and kicks! With this in mind, I started Shotokan karate in 2006 – the traditional style seemed to fit well with Judo. I got my first 1st Dan black belt in Shotokan in 2011, 2nd Dan in 2013, and 3rd Dan in December 2023.

I’m also a married family man with 2 daughters, a guitar teacher, and love my triathlons. Most days you’ll see me running around Caldecotte Lake or Bow Brickhill woods with my dog, or cycling the roads around MK!

I also teach at several schools in Buckinghamshire and Bedforshire as breakfast and after school clubs. Please contact me for details.

I’m black belt qualified, First Aid trained, Insured through Insure4sport, DBS checked, Safeguarding and Prevent trained.”

GET YOUR GI

Once you get your first belt, you’ll need something to put it on. A Shinri branded Gi costs £30 and comes in a range of sizes.

We use a coloured belt system to show what grade we are. When you are ready to grade, your Sensei will tell you what to do and when.

Gradings are included in the monthly fee.

If your son/daughter/they is ready to train and happy to come along to try it on a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday then all you need to do is turn up at 6pm (11:15 Saturday), drop them off, then pick them up at 7pm (12:15pm Saturday). I’ll need some details from you regarding name, contact number and any relevant medical details you think I might need to know, so please fill in the “New Starter Form” below. The first lesson is free to see if they like it. After that I’ll send you details of likely costs going forward – so there’s no hidden costs!.
